How It Works
1. Order online
Tell me whose skates they are, what hollow you like, and what they need. Pay at checkout — Venmo or card.
2. Drop them off whenever
You'll get an email with your locker number and the keybox code. Come by on your schedule.
3. I sharpen them
Every pair goes on a Sparx, set to your hollow. The machine cuts the same edge every time, so you're not hoping you got the good tech that day. I look at every pair before I start, and if the blades need more than you ordered, I'll text you a photo before doing anything extra.
4. Pick them up
Another email when they're ready, with the locker number. Most orders are done within 24 hours. Need them sooner, just say so in the notes.
What It Costs
Tune-Up Sharpen — $10
Regular maintenance. This is what most skates need, and it's what most orders are.
If your blades need more than that:
Full Edge Reset — $20
For deep nicks and gouges a normal sharpen can't clear. The blade gets ground flat past the damage, the hollow re-cut, and the toe blended. Toe-pick removal included.
Toe-Pick Removal — $5
Add to a Tune-Up. Smooths the bump that builds up at the front of the blade after a lot of sharpenings.
Not Sure What Your Skates Need?
Run your thumbnail down the edge of the blade — along its length, lightly, not across it.
If it glides, you need a Tune-Up. That's most skates, most of the time.
If it catches on nicks, or you can see gouges when you tip the blade toward the light, a regular sharpen won't clear them — the grinding ring just cuts around the damage and leaves it there. That's what the Full Edge Reset is for.
Then look at the front of the blade from the side. After a lot of sharpenings a small bump builds up where the flat part starts to curve toward the toe. That's what toe-pick removal smooths out.

If you know yours, just put it on the form. If you don't, use the chart below or tell me how your edges feel (sliding out in turns, or gripping too much) and I'll recommend one.

As a retired Division III hockey player turned beer leaguer, I know firsthand how important sharp skates are and how frustrating it can be to get them sharpened.
After getting tired of driving across town to pro shops with limited or inconsistent hours, I started The Neighborhood Edge to make skate sharpening easier for local hockey players and families in Central Park.
